EDF and Pod Point partner to roll out UK’s cheapest EV tariff

EV Energy Tariffs
  • Pod Point operates the UK’s largest networks of EV charging points, serving 180,000+ homes and 9,200+ public locations across the country

  • The new tariff is available to new Pod Point home customers, enabling them to charge at just 7.4p per kilowatt hour, and benefit from the cheapest overall standard EV tariff rates powered by zero carbon electricity from EDF

  • Market leading rate fixed for 1-year for added peace of mind

EDF has partnered with EV charging operator, Pod Point, to bring the UK’s cheapest EV charging tariff to market.

The tariff will be made available to new Pod Point customers buying a Solo 3 home charger when they sign up to use EDF for their energy.

It will see customers charged just 7.4 pence per kilowatt hour for energy used between the hours of midnight and 05:00 - during which drivers can schedule their electric vehicle to charge.

The Pod Point tariff offers the cheapest overnight rate combined with a competitive daytime rate, to provide customers with the best overall EV tariff based on typical usage.

The rollout of affordable home charging services is critical to the success of Pod Point’s commitment to convert the UK to electric vehicles - 90 per cent of EV charging happens either at home or at the workplace. Customers can now charge more cheaply, with the benefit of zero-carbon electricity, during a time of economic uncertainty and cost pressure.

In September 2023, 63,858 new EVs were registered, a 26.7% increase from September 2022. Affordable charging is a key opportunity to encourage more drivers to make the switch and move towards achieving the UK net zero targets.

Pod Point CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer, said:

“We know consumers are most likely to charge their cars overnight at home, making sure that - just like the mobile phone on their bedside table - it is ready to go when they need it, whether that’s for the school run or the morning commute. This tariff will make home EV charging more affordable for thousands of households across the country, whilst still providing a competitive peak rate to deliver the overall cheapest EV tariff.”
