Intelligent Motorist – for Electric and Hybrid training

Autotech EV Training

EV Training provider ‘Autotech Training’ turns to Intelligent Motorist for help in visualising the technicalities and intricacies of the EV car, via the Intelligent Hub (iHub).

With the Governments Road to Zero (RTZ) targets, by 2030 it is anticipated that by then there will be between 8 and 11 million Hybrid and Electric cars in the UK. Clearly, these vehicles are becoming an ever increasingly popular choice for motorists. So with more and more EVs and Hybrids being registered every year, it is important that technicians are qualified up to IMI Level 3 award, in order to safely carry out diagnostics, testing and repair activities on them.

Because EV/Hybrid cars are generally very expensive and still fairly new, it simply isn’t possible to have multiple motors, batteries and other electrical components available to strip down and take apart in a training environment. That is where the Intelligent Hub comes in!

Intelligent Motorist Ltd provides workshops with an innovative electronic vehicle health check (eVHC) software solution. The focus is very much on the quality of information a technician can capture on a customers’ vehicle and then more importantly, presenting that information as clearly as possible for the owner to understand.

A key part of presenting this information is the iHub. The iHub is a large format touchscreen TV App, which allows a technician or service advisor to present a health check report. This interactive experience utilises the iHub app to show photos, videos, graphical elements and 3D models to illustrate the issues found.

It’s the 3D models that really lend themselves to EV/Hybrid training, as the iHub allows the user to select almost any component part of a vehicle, rotate it, zoom in or out and explode it out into many internal pieces. The user can then select any part, which is then highlighted and labeled to see what it is. 3D animations also show the internal movement of motors and gearboxes or even the flow of electricity.

Simon King, Managing Director of Autotech Training said;

“The iHub is a unique training tool that allows us to quickly and easily see the inner workings of hundreds of parts within a vehicle. As a training provider, the EV and Hybrid models are particularly beneficial to us, as we can demonstrate and then test our learners on multiple aspects of the vehicle, without physically stripping our own EV down!

“This part of our training means that we can break up the classroom element into a much more interactive activity that delegates love and really engage with. And because Electric and Hybrid vehicles use very different technology to most ICE vehicles that technicians are used to, it helps them visualize and understand something that they would otherwise never be able to see!”

Ben Smith, Co-founder of Intelligent Motorist added;

“We developed Intelligent Motorist to meet the rising expectations of todays digital savvy vehicle owners. We use app technology to capture and deliver a far richer customer experience whether they are at home, at work or in the workshop.

“The iHub was designed as a tool to help service advisors explain technical issues to the vehicle owner. From day one of putting the system in workshops we saw how technicians flocked to the touchscreen to explore the 3D models. They enjoyed interacting with the models of inner workings of a vehicle and it came as no surprise when Autotech Training asked if they could use it in their training environment.”
