Intermotor-sponsored Team GB ice hockey set sights on Olympic Games
Engine management specialists, SMP Europe, the home of Lucas, Lemark and Intermotor brands, recently announced a change in its sponsorship for the Team Great Britain (Team GB) ice hockey team, with the Intermotor brand now taking centre stage on the ice.
Team GB is now supported with the Intermotor logo on its jerseys, merchandise and arena branding.
Great Britain took a step towards the 2026 Winter Olympics qualification with a 7-4 win over Romania in Cardiff during the qualifiers weekend from 8 to 11 February 2024.
The win followed Intermotor-sponsored Team GB's victory of China (10-1) and an 11-0 triumph over Serbia, which led the team to reach the next round of qualification in August – where the team GB ice hockey team is hoping to reach their first Olympic Games since 1948.
Martin Turner, marketing director at SMP Europe, commented: “What a fantastic achievement for Team GB in Cardiff. We’re excited for this season and are backing the team all the way to the Olympics!
“The reason for the branding change is that we are wanting to reinforce one of our most well-known and respected brand in our portfolio by showcasing it on the world stage.”
The company will continue to apply the pink colourway to the Intermotor logo as part of its commitment to the charitable work the brand does for breast cancer charities in association with GB Ice Hockey.
Turner continued: “Our fundraising efforts in recent years have seen us raise over £30k for breast cancer charities so far, and we’re delighted to be continuing with the pink colourway for Intermotor on the ice this season.”
SMP Europe managing director, Ross Toomey, said: “We are delighted to once again be supporting Ice Hockey UK and Great Britain at the World Championship for 2024 – and this year with Intermotor taking its turn in the spotlight.
“As a global company, we look forward to bringing the passion and excitement of World Championship hockey to our customers and the automotive aftermarket for another year!”
