Motul look forward to Goodwood Revival 2024
The Goodwood Revival has long been one of the world’s foremost historic car events and there is kudos attached merely to having a car there, let alone being in contention for class, or outright honours – as indeed is the case at any of the other Goodwood motorsport meetings: the Members Meeting in Spring or the Festival of Speed in July.
Various of the teams that Motul partners with, for their lubricant and automotive fluid requirements, will be at this weekend’s Revival meeting. Motul partners, the Jordan Racing Team, the outfit run by father and son, ex-British Touring Car Champions, Mike and Andrew Jordan, will no doubt be contenders for honours at the Sussex track once again, - as, most likely, will be several other Motul partner teams, amongst which will be ERA Motorsport.
ERA may not be a name familiar to all motorsport fans, but devotees of historic motorsport - or American sportscar racing - may well know the name, or will have seen some of their cars in action.
Based in Avebury, Wiltshire, ERA is rapidly establishing itself as one of the premier historic race preparation companies in the UK. ERA has expanded rapidly over the last couple of years, and its growth continues to impress.
Established in 2018 by Kyle Tilley, ERA is essentially a family business, with brother Kane running the UK establishment, while Dad, Charles and other family members help out in the Avebury office.
Kyle divides his time between the UK base and the American race business in Indiana, where, in addition to the historic work, the company also runs a team in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar series, where it has found considerable success – including a Daytona 24 Hours victory.
The relatively recent move into the Avebury facility has seem a dramatic upscale in its UK business. Expanding from a capacity of around half a dozen cars, the new premises currently house around 40 beautifully prepared vehicles of different vintages.
Motul is very much in evidence, and ERA employs the products not only in preparing and running their cars, but also uses Motul Tech products in its machine shop.
“One of the great things about ERA, is that their selection of cars really allows us to showcase just how Motul works across a great deal of its range – from current racecars, through modern classics to the amazing collection of Shadow Can-Am monsters and F1 Cars,” explains Motul UK Sales and Marketing Manager, Andy Wait. “Motul is also very much in evidence visually there, from the branding on the cars and the range of product being used - or prominently displayed on the shelves around the workshop - through to the huge Motul classic logo on the rear of the transporter.
ERA will have four vehicles at the Goodwood Revival – the Aston Martin DB4 GT that has become one of ERA’s best known Classics, their Plymouth Barracuda, the unique Gilby F1 car, together with their distinctive, British Racing Green, Thames workshop van.
The team was in full flow at the recent Silverstone Festival, where it had an even more eclectic selection of race cars – from the Rover SD1, through historic sports cars like such as their Lola T70 and Lotus Elite, to their Shadow DN5 Formula 1 cat and 2009 Oreca FLM09 Le Mans racer, that runs in the spectacular Masters Endurance Race series.
ERA is a busy place and its expansion has allowed the business to add further dimensions to its scope of endeavour.
There is, for instance, an impressive race simulator, which can be set up for any of ERA’s cars, at any circuit they are going to be tackling. More impressive still is the academy that ERA has launched to help bring on the next generation of race car restorers and historic race engineers.
Mark Bailey, whose vast experience was brought into play to actually design the layout of the ERA workshop premises, now also plays the role of head tutor at the ERA academy.
The academy boasts a race bay - currently complete with Formula Nippon car - a classroom, and several other specialist training areas – engine, gearbox, suspension etc.
ERA makes the facilities available to local colleges who are running Motorsport Engineering courses. They are being well used and, indeed, ERA has already recruited two trainees, who have graduated from college, as part of its staff.
Mark Bailey insists that while it is important to learn the theory, experience on the workshop floor and at race meetings is invaluable and, for its part, ERA is delighted to help nurture the next generation – something that rings dear to Motul, whose Corazon Foundation projects also help nurture future automotive talent across the world.
Motul is extremely proud to support teams like ERA, Jordan Racing and others this weekend, as it is to be a main partner of the Goodwood Revival itself and rhe brand will be very much in evidence at the 2024 Goodwood Revival.
Motul branding will be prominent around the Goodwood circuit and Motul will, once again, be the presenting name for the popular two-part St Mary’s Trophy Classic Saloon Car race. The Motul Garage shop, in the Revival’s High Street will be staged this year, in conjunction with RUF Porsche and will offer Motul products and Motul’s range of retro merchandise as well, of course, as being on hand to help visitors and competitors alike with lubricant advice. Motul will also, as it has for several years now, be providing its Mobile Laboratory facility, free of charge, to competitors throughout the Goodwood Revival meeting.
“The Goodwood Revival is something unique and we are delighted, once again, to be there in force and, once again, to have the Motul mobile laboratory there, so competitors can “health check” their cars”, continues Andy Wait. “With such valuable machinery around, it is great to be able to help ensure that potential engine or transmission problems can be spotted – or existing problems diagnosed. It makes the racing safer and can help teams and owners prevent potentially catastrophic damage to these valuable historic icons.”
