TerraClean-sponsored Turkington scoops Silverstone spoil

British Touring Car Championships

TerraClean-sponsored British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) ace Colin Turkington took a stunning victory in the third of three races at Silverstone to complete a mixed conditions comeback drive for the ages.

Colin produced a remarkable effort in Saturday’s qualifying session to put his BMW 330e M Sport on the front row of the grid for the first race held on Sunday. However, unpredictable and changing weather, combined with contact with another car, put paid to his race.

A superb comeback from Turkington in race two followed, with the four-time champion recovering 18 places to move up from 26th, to finish in eighth.

In race three, Colin worked hard from his fifth-placed grid position, making moves from an early safety car restart to move up to second place, before chasing and passing NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Rowbottom to take the lead, which he held on to until the chequered flag, recording the fastest lap in the process.

Turkington said: “Seeing the happy faces in parc fermé made my weekend. I’m so pleased to reward everyone for sticking with it after the disappointment of race one. It was a difficult position to be in with the weather and ultimately we made the wrong call as the rain returned.

“We've had a fair few of those sinking stomach moments this year, but it was important to dust myself down from there and attack the rest of the day. The results after that were a shot in the arm.

“The car was the best it’s been in race three, and I was able to stay in control of the race despite a rapid Tom Ingram in my mirrors. We're mathematically out of the title fight now, but I intend to push hard to the end and enjoy the finale!"

The 2023 BTCC season concludes with the final three rounds at Brands Hatch, from October 7th-8th. Turkington is fourth in the drivers’ standings, with BMW team-mate Jake Hill still in his sights in third, 37 points ahead, with a maximum haul of 65 possible over a weekend.
