Auto Windscreens targets approved by SBTi
Auto Windscreens’ greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reduction targets have been approved against the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) net-zero criteria.
As part of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitment, Auto Windscreens is leading the charge in the UK automotive glazing industry, having been the first windscreen provider to publish its action plan last year, which includes deliverables in Scope 1 and 2 (emissions controlled or owned by the company) as well as Scope 3 (emissions which the organisation is indirectly responsible for, up and down its value chain).
The company’s targets in the near-term are to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year and to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 42% within the same timeframe. In the long-term, its targets are to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 100% by 2040 from a 2021 base year, and reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe.
Key activities include having a fully electric fleet by 2035, removing all fossil fuelled heating systems in its buildings and engaging with its supply chain to ensure best practices are being adhered to.
Shaun Atton, Business Support Director at Auto Windscreens, comments: “Having our targets officially approved makes it feel like Christmas has come early for us. This significant milestone is not just a testament to our commitment to sustainability, but also a reflection of the valuable support and collaboration we have received from our partners and suppliers.
“In the new year, SBTi will be publishing our approved targets on their website, an action that will mark our collective effort towards a more sustainable future. I look forward to continuing our ESG journey - we’ll be raising a toast to our greener future, and encouraging others to embark on this crucial journey in 2024.”
