Auto Windscreens targets Net Zero by 2045

Auto Windscreens

Following its commitment to The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) earlier in the year, Auto Windscreens is today announcing its ambitious targets to achieve Net Zero by 2045, five years ahead of the overall goal set by The Paris Agreement, a landmark international accord that was adopted by nearly every nation in 2015 to address climate change and its negative impacts.

As part of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitment, Auto Windscreens is leading the charge in the UK automotive glazing industry as the first windscreen provider to publish its action plan which includes deliverables in Scope 1 and 2 (emissions controlled or owned by the company) as well as Scope 3 (emissions which the organisation is indirectly responsible for, up and down its value chain). Key activities include having a fully electric fleet by 2035, removing all fossil fuelled heating systems in its buildings, engaging with its supply chain to ensure best practices are being adhered to and continuing its carbon offsetting programme. The targets are to be Net Zero in its Scope 1 and 2 by 2035, 82% reduction in Scope 3 by 2040 and Net Zero as a business by 2045.

Shaun Atton, Business Support Director at Auto Windscreens, comments: “ESG is critical to every person and every industry and at Auto Windscreens, we take our responsibility seriously. Putting in place tangible environmental plans quickly has been a key focus for me and announcing they’ve been prepared for submission to the SBTi is an important milestone in our journey.

We will be championing the importance of the initiative with our partners, customers and suppliers and will be further embedding the ethos and culture with our own colleagues. ESG has been firmly on our agenda as a business for a number of years, in 2017 we were recognised as a carbon neutral business, but it’s also important that we think what we as individuals can do to help beat climate change. Together we can make a huge difference.”
