AX and Summers Motors mark 15 years of working together as the bodyshop embraces innovation with its EV certification.

Established in 1946, Summers Motors is one of the oldest accredited Volkswagen Group bodyshops in the UK and for over 15 years the business has worked with AX’s industry-leading non-fault credit hire services.

The family-run business, now in its fourth generation, has operated on the same site in Kent since origination. Adoption of state-of-the-art technology has enabled the bodyshop to work on the latest vehicles, including accreditation to work on electric vehicles and its comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration equipment.

Summers Motors has evolved its repair processes and carefully selects where its parts and materials are sourced from to minimise the environmental impact of its services, which has been enhanced by the partnership with AX.

“We needed a credit hire company that could guarantee a customer journey and a level of service we would expect if we were using their service ourselves,” said Ian Summers, Director at Summers Motors.

“This means a partner that ensures a customer’s vehicle is repaired in the correct way using genuine parts and approved repair methods, is efficient and transparent throughout the entire process, and supplies a suitable replacement vehicle in a timely fashion.”

Unlike other repairers, Summers Motors does not have contracts with insurance companies which guarantees a certain number of jobs each week. Instead, the business actively sources its own repair work. The partnership with AX helps to ensure a constant throughput of workshop traffic by converting estimates into jobs and driving revenue through its high conversion rate.

Having gained certification by Volkswagen Group to carry out repairs on electric vehicles, Summers Motors is continually evolving its processes and investing in training to ensure it can remain at the forefront of accident repair.

“Going forward, it’s important we work with partners that are able to adapt to a rapidly changing industry – something AX is very much doing. For instance, most electric vehicle drivers don’t want to go back into a petrol or diesel vehicle, but with an offering like AX Electric, these customers are guaranteed to be supplied with a like-for-like replacement electric vehicle,” added Summers.

AX Electric is the first fully comprehensive and tailored solution for the Insurer and Automotive sector and includes a 100% EV-for-EV guarantee, as well as guaranteed deployment to an EV authorised and approved repairer.
