carwow comments on latest SMMT UK car manufacturing figures

carwow reacts to SMMT production figures

Hugo Griffiths, Consumer Editor at carwow, Europe’s largest online marketplace for buying and selling cars, says:

“Peaks and troughs are inevitable parts of vehicle manufacturing, but news UK new-car production dropped for the first time after four consecutive months of growth is concerning, not least as it shows the supply chain constraints that have dominated the industry for so long are still capable of making themselves sharply felt.

“But while production as a whole fell by 6% compared to the same month last year, the number of electric cars built in September rose by 16.6%. In the same week we learnt that the Ford Fiesta is not long for this world, this indicates that when the semiconductor chips are down, companies will prioritise the electric cars that help them meet tough, continent-wide emission targets above more humble models.”
