SMP Europe takes air mass meter manufacturing in-house
Engine management specialist SMP Europe has overhauled the development and manufacturing of its air mass meter range, with investments bolstering its in-house research and development capability, enabling the entire process to be completed at its Nottinghamshire headquarters.
Air mass meters are sensors that measure air entering the engine and convert this data into a signal understood by the vehicle electronic control unit (ECU), which then determines load and calculates subsequent fuelling and ignition timing.
Air mass meters manufactured at SMP Europe’s Nottingham Centre of Engineering Excellence are developed using the latest technology, wire bonded to ensure durability, and tested to exacting standards to meet and exceed original equipment performance.
Martin Turner, marketing director at SMP Europe, said: "Our engineering capability has benefitted from significant investment, resulting in new machinery and test rigs. This means we’ve been able to create efficiencies and reduce the costs of tooling and manufacture by bringing many of these processes in house.
“This efficiency however doesn’t infringe on the quality of the end part, with SMP Europe dedicated to delivering the best performing air mass meters available to the aftermarket.”
New parts engineered at SMP Europe are taken through numerous processes to ensure quality, with each component issued with a serialised certificate offering customers peace of mind.
SMP Europe's team of experienced engineers have designed and produced in-house test and calibration machines to ensure fully accurate calibration and product reliability through extensive and exacting quality assurance methods.
